Africans, Colonization is not an Excuse for no Progress. STOP IT

What is this thing about the white man’s religion and colonization the reason for African’s inability to make progress? This isn’t new. You obviously have seen this statement in a social media discussion. I listen to Nigerians talk about going back to traditional religions and colonization being the reason for African’s diminutive growth. They are also quotes like “the white man asked us to close our eyes to pray and by the time we opened it, we had the bible and they had our land”. This is one of many of such “quotes”. It sounds really deep and weighty to the African man but I beg to differ. It is just another ‘African excuse’ as far as I am concerned and a really stupid one at that.

Is Democracy for Nigeria?

Democracy is a poor system of government at best; the only thing that can honestly be said in its favor is that it is about eight times as good as any other method the human race has ever tried. ~   Robert A. Heinlein Democracy is a system of government in which the masses (people of the state or country) have ultimate power of governance either through elected representatives or direct voting (or so they make us feel in Nigeria). Democracy is governed by three arms of government: The Executive (The President), the legislature (senators and members of the House of Representatives) and the judiciary (in charge of the courts).  Democracy also involves the use of the rule of law. The rule of law states that "you are bound by due process and must obey the decisions of the Judiciary."

Patriotism: Respect the National Pledge

“ Patriotism means to stand by the country . It does not mean to stand by the president .” Theodore Roosevelt In the light of the uprising in this country ranging from the Niger delta avengers crisis to the book haram insurgency (which isn’t new) to whatever other drama happens in the country at this point in time that we are oblivious or aware of, I have seen mixed reactions from citizens of this country in response to the situation. I like to state first and foremost that I am not for the government neither am I against the government. I am for Nigeria. I stand with Nigeria and Nigeria is my business irrespective of who is in power.

Northern Nigeria, Stop dragging us Backwards

This issue is of genuine importance. There was no intention to hurt anyone’s feelings or maim anybody or religion. But at a stance now, some issues can’t be downplayed. Today, I do not have the disposition to sugarcoat any of these. Northern Nigeria, we are sick and tired of having you drag us back to the Stone Age when it comes to the girl child and marriage. We cannot continue to take a step forward just to roll backwards. We are done with having you marry our little girls in the name of religion.
